New Marvel Trailers From Netflix: Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Defenders

I am a major fan of all of the Marvel Series on Netflix. I´m so happy that they have decided to expand and mix the Marvel Universe on their platform. First they did Daredevil and Jessica Jones both of which were amazing series in their own right but now they have released trailers for Luke Cage (a superhero with impenetrable skin) and Iron Fist (a hero with mystical powers) and Defenders which will be a superhero team all of these seem promising.

Flashback: Pokémon Indigo League

So with all the news in the air about Pokémon Go, I decided to go back and watch my favorite childhood television show, Pokémon Indigo. I was so obssed with this show when in came out in the late 90´s. I had all the games and I didn´t miss a single episode. I loved it as a kid but I wondered what I would think of it as an adult. So, I sat down and watched the first season and it was really easy to see why I liked it so much as a kid. Sure, it was a kid show but it had some deep messages as well as some very adult themes. The show didn´t water anything down.

Pokémon Indigo was released in the US in September of 1998 and its the story of a young boy who once he turns ten years old is able go on the road to becoming a pokemon trainer and along his journey he meets trouble as well new friends and learns great lessons along the way.

I highly encourage everyone to watch this series no matter if you watched it as a kid like me or if your never watched pokémon before. Its a great show with good animation and the writting is great too. And if you love Pokémon Go be sure to check out the post our sister site, Sailor Gamer did here. Batman: The Killing Joke Review *Mature Content

I was pleasantly surprised when I found out that DC Comics and Warner was going to release Batman: The Killing Joke because I never expected them to turn such a dark adult graphic novel into an animated movie. Originally, it was supposed to come as a straight to dvd release. So, I was really happy when I saw a small flier at my local movie theater saying that they would be showing the movie for two nights. My husband and I were super excited and we decided to get tickets (to see his review go here). After getting pumped and excited and carefully avoiding spoilers online we went excitedly to the movie theater only to be painfully disappointed.

For those who don't know Batman: The Killing Joke in the original comic told the tragic backstory of the Joker. And, I encourage anyone who hasn't read this classic from Alan Moore (writer) and Brian Bolland (Illustrator) to go ahead and read it. But, getting right back into the review of the movie instead of starting the movie with the Joker, we get stuck with about 40 or so minutes of Batgirl and Batman fighting a really unremarkable villan. Which really ends up serving no real purpose.

I later learned in an interview from Comic Con that this 40 minutes was suppose to create a backstory for Barbara Gordon (Batgirl) so that the viewer would feel more sympathy for her when she gets attacked by the Joker.

In the interview above at 2:33 Bruce Timm says ¨There's a lot of criticism that says, Barbra is just a plot device, she's your classic woman in a refrigerator, where she gets wounded. Strictly just to to you know piss off the male characters um so we took that opportunity to mitigate that by adding a lot more screen time to Batgirl and Barbara prior to the events of .. The Killing Joke¨. For me this is just insulting. I always saw Batgirl/ Barbara Gordon as a strong female character and Bruce Timm just managed to cheapen her and turn her into a needy wanty crybaby instead of the strong capable woman she was in the comics.

And because I need to address the elephant in the room, for some reason the writers thought that it would be a great idea for Batgirl and Batman to have sex on a rooftop. I mean why the heck did they have to put Batman and Batgirl together. It's just too out of character for Batman. He's a teacher to her not a fucktoy. I mean really all they managed to do was take a massive shit on a classic. As a woman I thought that this entire part of the movie was insulting. Because obviously right a woman can't have an important man in her life without needing to fuck them. I mean this is blatant sexism. Who´s with me?

It really seems they wanted to target dumb feminazis and they seemingly pulled some of the material straight from the crappy ghostbusters remake. With everything from period jokes to chatting with her stereotypical gay friend. Why did this beginning part have to happen it would have been so much more entertaining to see from the beginning what I and the audience was promised in the title.

Then after the 40 minutes of the stupidity with Batgirl they finally get into what's actually in the comic and they do it justice it's literally the same panel for panel and the Joker is downright terrifying but I have to say on a scale from one to ten I'd have to give this one a five. I would say that if you haven't seen this yet don't rush out to see it in the movie theater and don't rush out to buy it when it comes out because really it's not worth your money. It would be a better to save the money to go out and buy the actual graphic novel.

Well, that's my review for Batman: The Killing Joke. What do you think? Do you agree or disagree with me leave a comment and let me know. Marvel Releases First Trailer For Doctor Strange and I´m Excited!

So, I am super excited to announce that early this morning Marvel launched the first trailer for Dr. Strange, an intelligent yet conceited surgeon who gets his career destroyed but in a hand of fate a sorcerer finds him and teaches him the magical arts feeling he has great potential.

The movie is being directed by Scott Derrickson and will feature Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr. Steven Strange. I am super excited about this movie because it means that unlike DC, Marvel has decided to embrace the magical side of their comics instead of having that strange compulsion to make everything ¨realistic¨. I know I just bashed some fanboy heads but it's the truth. It's nice to see Marvel crossing this frontier. Dr, Strange has a release date for, November 4, 2016. So, are you going to go see it? What do you think? Leave a comment and let us know. And please be sure to follow us on Twitter and like us on Facebook and if you liked this post please share with your friends and family.

The Mesopotamian Civilization

The Mesopotamian civilization of the Sumerians was the first of its kind to develop a written language.  Whereas the spoken word worked for a time it became necessary to develop a way in which information could be recorded at first it was simple pictograph's and, over time a script was developed called cuneiform.

Scribes were taught at an early age and although the school had a headmaster students were taught by older students and flattery and bribes were a necessity to avoid beatings from . And as with everything in the ancient world Scribes had their own goddess Nisaba but in later years it would change to the god Nabu (and yes I thought of Dr. Fate too).  The scribes used basic tools for writing. The main tool was a reed stylus which was essentially a reed with the end cut off and this worked as a sort of pen. Now the Mesopotamians did not make papyrus like the Egyptians instead they used clay or wax tablets. They also used cylinder seals as signatures.

They also developed a written number system which these people's used for Science and mathematics. Which ultimatly enabled the peoples of this civilization to develop their own technology in order to create better life's for themselves.

Despite having a working alphabet they still kept some some pictographs to symbolize words and ideas. For example the symbol for barely (which you can see below) despite some changes it remained a picture representing a word rather than spelling out the word in the alphabet glyphs. It reminds me of Chinese and Japanese writing, whereas all of these have a working alphabet they use glyphs to represent words or ideas.

However, not everyone in Mesopotamia knew how to read and write, only a few were taught this trade Dubsar's or Scribes. Scibes not only held a high place in the hierarchy of  Mesopotamian Society, they were also greatly respected as scholars. Their job was to kept record of everything from daily events and trade to astronomy and literature and it's mainly because of this that we know so much about this once great culture. One of the earliest surviving literature came from this culture, known as The Epic of Gilgamesh (which you can read here) which has not only been preserved all this time and translated to many languages but it has also been used over and over again in popular culture for example in Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Marvel´s New Captain America: Civil War Trailer Features Spiderman

So, I am super excited about the newest trailer for Captain America: Civil War because .... you see Spiderman at the end of the trailer. I am a super fan of Spiderman so I´m excited to see him in a marvel movie alongside the Avengers. And for those which may not know the general plot, The world after the last Avengers movies saw their cities crumbled and destroyed and as a result the US enacts the SuperHuman Registration Act, a legislative bill that requires mandatory registration of any US citizen with superpowers. That being said Ironman leads the helm with those for the bill and Captain America thinks that it's wrong and defies the bill. So which are you #TeamIronMan or #TeamCap. I typically really like Ironman over Captain America but under these circumstances, I'm siding with Captain America on this simply because I can easily see how something like this could lead to a witch hunt. What do you think? Are you excited? Leave a comment and let me know.
